Position Overview:
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing the organization's payroll operations, ensuring that employees are compensated accurately and timely. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong foundation in accounting practices and payroll procedures.
1. Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing:
+ Process periodic payrolls, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
+ Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Account Reconciliation:
+ Reconcile payroll accounts monthly and ensure all payroll transactions are accurately recorded.
+ Resolve any discrepancies concerning payroll records.
- Reporting:
+ Prepare various payroll-related reports as required by management, finance, or HR.
- Assist in financial audits related to payroll and respond to audit findings.
2. Tax Compliance:
- Ensure accurate and timely remittance of payroll taxes, workers compensation, and other government filings.
- Stay updated with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements; ensuring compliance.
3. Benefits Administration Support:
- Work closely with the HR team to ensure accurate benefits deductions and liaise with benefits providers as needed.
Assist in the administration and reporting of retirement plans.
4. Employee Queries:
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
5. System Management:
- Monitor the payroll system, recommending and implementing updates or changes as needed.
- Work with IT and/or HRIS vendors to troubleshoot any system issues.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with current trends and best practices in payroll accounting.
- Recommend process improvements to create more efficient payroll procedures.

Skills & Competencies Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Previous experience in a payroll or accounting function.
- Knowledge of payroll procedures and best practices.
- Proficient with payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Understanding of local, state, and federal payroll tax regulations.
- Advance level of English
